Why A Day Devoted to Kindness?

Nov 13, 2015

It’s World Kindness Day on November 13th and it puts a focus on the often gentle but mighty power of compassion.

The timing was perfect to do an interview with Lisa Currie of Ripple Kindness Project in Australia:
“Ripple” is a community project and a heart-centred primary school curriculum providing education, information and inspiration for people in all walks of life. It also has continual moving stories and resources emphasizing this important character trait.

I spoke about the work Founder Lisa Currie carries out through the schools and community,  and the importance of a day devoted to kindness:

There may be some who question why we need a day devoted to Kindness: In the words of blogger Philip Turner, Entrepreneur Difference: “ It strikes me as very sad that we even need a World Kindness Day. However if it makes 1 person do something kind then it is worthwhile. Most people are either kind-hearted or they are not - Occasionally someone changes - perhaps this can provide the epiphany that is needed to effect that change."

And, perhaps it is the catalyst one may need because it has been proven that when you emphasize and carry out kind actions, there is often a 'ripple' or 'domino' effect that takes place.  In the eloquent words of Patricia Weber who Inspires and supports introverts: "This coming together shines a light on how all people, everywhere, care about many of the same issues. As human beings we want the same things like it is said in loving kindness meditation - may we all be well, may we all be healthy, may we all be at peace and free of struggle. It doesn't matter who we are or where we live, causes affect all of us and how we get along on this planet earth."

Well-said! And, here's wishing this global day of compassion inspires you to do one small act for someone else. If you need some some inspiration you can visit Ripple Kindness for more ideas, my own site has a few suggestions http://www.steffiblackcoaching.com/world-kindness-day-whats-your-plan.html and, of course, Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, which is an interactive, informative site that supplies ideas and tools for this day and all year long:

Happy World Kindness Day - A designated day that can simply benefits us all in the end.
